System testing within the spectrum of software testing

What is System Testing?

The testing team carries out this testing on the entire integrated system to assess its compliance with the relevant requirements.

This uses the components that have passed integration testing as input. The testing team employs integration testing to identify any discrepancies between the linked components.

It looks for flaws in both the individual parts and the entire system. The observed behavior of a component or a system when tested is the result of this process.

A separate testing team, distinct from the development team, carries out this process to objectively assess the quality of the system. It includes both functional and non-functional testing.

System Testing is a black-box testing.

The testing team performs this testing after the integration testing and before the acceptance testing.

System Testing

Below are the steps:

  • Test Environment Setup: Setup a testing environment to ensure high-quality testing.
  • Testcase Creation: Create a test case to help with the testing process.
  • Make Test Data: Create the test data for testing purpose
  • Test Case Execution: Test case execution after test cases and test data are prepared.
  • Defect Reporting:Defect reporting identifies and reports system flaws.
  • Regression Testing: Regression testing is performed to determine if the testing method has any adverse effects.
  • Defect Logging: Defect logging logs and fixes defects at this step.
  • Retest: Done if initial test was unsuccessful.

Types of System Testing

  • Performance Testing: Performance testing is a sort of software testing that examines a software product or application’s speed, scalability, stability, and reliability.
  • Load Testing:Load testing examines how a system or software product will behave when subjected to high loads.
  • Stress Testing: Stress testing is a sort of software testing that examines the system’s robustness under various demands.
  • Scalability Testing: Scalability testing is a sort of software testing that examines the performance of a software Programme or system in terms of its capacity to scale up or down the number of user requests it receives.
